We are building this nest from the collective clay of our past, memories, dreams and the ideas that arise from our exchange with each other, our architects and Amsterdam’s cooperative landscape.
Rooted in the Amstelkwartier and connected to the city’s urban nature, we hope that, just as folklore suggests, the presence of a swallow’s nest will bring prosperity and happiness to our new neighbourhood.
We want a home that genuinely welcomes people of diverse cultural backgrounds and different physical and mental needs. This means both anti-racist, feminist principles and building design that is thoughtful and neurodiversity-friendly.
We support each other and stay connected to the world beyond our walls: the neighbourhood, the city, and further. In practice, this means affordable housing, shared responsibilities, and communal spaces that serve as a social hub for shared meals, workshops, and neighbourhood events.
Ecological and social, hand in hand. Communal living naturally supports a more sustainable lifestyle, and our building reflects this: shared gardens, biodiversity measures, sustainable materials, and renewable energy.
Het Zwaluwnestje is designed around the cooperative principle that space is shared. Our 40 unit building will accommodate the full diversity of our community, with apartments for families, shared living for friends, and homes for couples and singles. Communal spaces are woven throughout, such as a shared kitchen for cooking together and a rooftop to gather on.
